Rene Huertas

Print & Graphic Designer

Welcome to my online portfolio

I'm Rene Huertas

A little bit about myself:

When I was 15 years old, I was introduced to the graphic arts industry. This happened when I attended the Central Industrial Institute (Instituto Industrial Central "Gral. Lázaro Chacón González") in Guatemala City. I learned typography, old fashion bookbinding (by sewing), and how to use letterpresses (Chandler and Heidelberg). My studies encouraged me to be detail oriented. I graduated when I was 17 years old. I received my diploma and attained the title of “Graphic Arts Professional.”

In 1989, at the age of 20, my parents brought me to the United States, where I obtained a job working in a print shop. There, I had the opportunity to learn offset printing. I also learned to use different presses like the Chief 17, 217, Ryobi 3302, AB Dick 360-CD, 9810 – 9850, and Multi’s 1250.

I felt so passionate about offset printing that I pursued further education from 2006 to 2009 in Graphic Design at the Abram Freidman Occupational Center (AFOC). Some of my courses included: Advanced and Fundamental Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, Graphic Communication, Digital Imaging, Pre Press and Scanning, Advertising, and Web Design. Every course required software from the Adobe Suite like InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro; other software that was extensively used was Quark Xpress and Corel Draw.

In 2012 to 2016, I helped my teacher at AFOC do work in offset and digital printing, and web design. In addition to the skills I already possessed, I learned how to build and edit web sites. I used Dreamweaver and Brackets and programmed in HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, Javascript, JQuery, PHP, and other web languages. I also learned to print banners on an HP Latex 360 and HP Z5200 printers. I also learned dye sublimation printing for mugs and mouse pads.

Overall, graphic and web design have inspired me to bring digital graphics to life; my key focus is to exceed client/employer expectations. I enjoy collaborating with clients, creative teams, and production professionals to deliver graphic design solutions.

Managers M.B.A. Flyers

A friend of mine came to me and asked me if I could help her in designing a new flyer for her company, she gave me some ideas and a rough sketch of what she needed. I brainstorm about what she gave me, I came up with some ideas, used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. This is what I designed for her.

She was very please with the end results.

He gave me some ideas of what he needed for his business advertisement and self introduction. I also used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create his business and Mailing cards.
